We have some outstanding news to share about one of Team KSD’s exceptional educators!
Dr. Brad Miller, a chemistry teacher at Kearney High School and the 2026 Kearney School District Teacher of the Year, has been named a finalist in the Kansas City Regional Teacher of the Year selection process.
The regional selection committee reviewed and scored applications from outstanding teachers throughout the Kansas City area. The committee selected six Regional Teachers of the Year and specifically recognized Dr. Miller as a finalist in an extraordinarily strong group of educators.
The Missouri Teacher of the Year program is designed to celebrate excellence in the teaching profession and recognize educators who are highly respected by their students, families, colleagues and communities. Candidates also must demonstrate leadership, service and a powerful ability to help students learn and grow.
Dr. Miller exemplifies all of those qualities. He has served in public education for 17 years, including the past seven years at KHS. During that time, he has built a reputation for combining high expectations with humor, patience and unwavering encouragement. He helps students understand that struggling with difficult material is not a sign of failure. It is part of learning, growing and discovering what they are capable of accomplishing.
“Brad is the rare teacher who raises the bar while making students feel capable of reaching it,” KHS Principal Dr. Andy Gustafson said.
Dr. Miller’s impact reaches well beyond his chemistry classroom. He regularly tutors students after school, develops creative learning experiences such as his Chemist of the Year Bracket and helped spearhead the KHS Day of Service. This year, more than 400 students participated in 27 projects benefiting organizations and neighbors throughout our community.
He will be honored during the KC Regional Teacher of the Year celebration luncheon on July 15. Dr. Miller has also been invited to participate in Teacher Academy, an individualized professional learning experience that allows excellent teachers to collaborate, strengthen their instructional practices and explore ideas and challenges that matter deeply to them.
Being named a regional finalist is an extraordinary and well-earned recognition of Dr. Miller’s skill, leadership and commitment to his students.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Brad Miller! We are incredibly proud to have him representing Kearney High School and the entire Kearney School District. |
