Dogwood Students Put Creativity and Teamwork to the Test on Egg Drop Day

At Dogwood Elementary, students discovered recently that you can't really learn without breaking a few eggs.
On Thursday, March 26, students put their creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills to the test during a memorable Project Based Learning experience that turned the school playground into a launch site for discovery.
As part of their Huddle Up teams, students were challenged to design and build a structure capable of protecting an egg from breaking when dropped from the Dogwood roof. After gathering on the blacktop following the school’s monthly awards assembly, students and staff watched with excitement as each team’s creation took its turn in the air. Dogwood’s Coach Mattson and Mr. Wilson handled the honors of dropping the devices from the roof, while Minute to Win It games kept the energy high between drops.
The event was a fun and engaging example of what Project Based Learning can look like at its best. Students were asked to think critically, work together, test ideas and learn through both success and failure. Just as important, they experienced the joy that can come when learning feels real, shared and a little bit daring.
Experiences like this across Kearney School District help bring learning to life for students while reinforcing skills that matter far beyond elementary school. We are grateful to the Dogwood team for creating meaningful opportunities like this one and for making school a place where curiosity, teamwork and creativity are celebrated.
