Kearney School District is proud to recognize the Kearney High School Girls Swim & Dive team for an outstanding showing at the 2026 MSHSAA State Championship Meet in St. Louis.

The Bulldogs closed out their season with a strong performance against top competition from across Missouri, finishing 21st out of 58 teams, the team’s highest finish at state in five years.

A special congratulations goes to Kaylie Gerber, who earned Kearney’s only state medal with a 7th-place finish in the 50 freestyle. Kaylie entered the meet as the No. 7 seed, swam a personal record in prelims to move up to the No. 5 seed, and followed it up with another strong swim in finals to bring home a state medal for the Bulldogs.

Kaylie also showed impressive resilience in the 100 butterfly after an unexpected goggle issue just before her prelim race. She regrouped, advanced to day two, and came back to break the one-minute mark for the first time, finishing 9th in the state with a time of 59.86.

This year’s state roster was a young group made up mostly of underclassmen, and they rose to the challenge in a big way. The Bulldogs qualified at least one swimmer in 9 of 11 events, advanced two relays to finals for the first time since 2019, and had an individual swimmer qualify for day-two finals for the first time since 2021.

Highlights from the meet also included:
  • A 16th-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay
  • A 14th-place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay after qualifying for finals and dropping more time on day two
  • Several personal records and strong individual finishes from a talented, up-and-coming group
Congratulations to Coach Trevor Woehrman, the coaching staff, and all of our student-athletes on an excellent season. We are proud of the growth, grit, and determination this team showed all year long!
