The Harlem Wizards are known nationwide for their high-energy blend of basketball skill, comedy, and audience interaction. This family-friendly event promises laughter, incredible tricks, and unforgettable moments as students, staff, and community members come together to celebrate Bulldog pride.
As KSDEF’s first Harlem Wizards event, this game marks an exciting new chapter for the Foundation’s fundraising efforts. Proceeds from the event will support KSDEF’s mission of enhancing educational opportunities for Kearney students through classroom innovation grants, student programs, and scholarships.
KSDEF hopes this inaugural Wizards game becomes a new Kearney tradition, one that brings the community together while directly supporting students and teachers across the district. Join us on Saturday, April 11, at KHS!

Yesterday, Jan. 21, the Kearney School District Board of Education hosted a special Student Recognition Ceremony in the Kearney High School Auditorium to celebrate Bulldogs who have earned honors at the state level, both as individuals and as members of outstanding teams. We were grateful to share the afternoon with so many families, staff members, coaches/directors, and community supporters as we recognized the hard work behind these achievements.
Board President Darlene Bailey and the board members were also joined by Missouri House District 39 Representative Mark Meirath and KSD Superintendent Dr. Emily Miller as we celebrated accomplishments from our KHS Band, Choir, Cheer, Cross Country, Softball and Football programs.

The meeting began with a School Spotlight on Kearney Elementary (KE), including a look at student clubs and leadership opportunities that help kids find their place and stretch their interests. One highlight was KE’s Spanish Club, which includes an impressive 45 students in grades 1–5 and is designed to build connections across grade levels while strengthening real-world skills and cultural awareness. KE Principal Mitch Masker and his team also shared a quick snapshot of the year so far. The spotlight wrapped with a well-deserved thank-you to the following long-serving staff members who have recently announced that they will be retiring at the end of the school year: Amy Beaver, Dave Tyner and Stacy Elam.
Other items:
- The Board received a student achievement update focused on the Annual Performance Report (APR) and mid-year assessment data.
- The Board received an update on bond-funded deferred maintenance work made possible after the district pivoted away from a fifth elementary school.
- KSD Chief Financial Officer Doug Schwinn also shared a new, more user-friendly Revenue & Expense Report that’s designed to make district finances easier to follow at a glance.

Kearney High School’s Golden Girls and Cheer Squad are inviting our youngest Bulldogs to get “All Dolled Up for the Bulldogs” at the Winter Spirit Clinic from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30, at KHS.
This clinic is open to kindergarten through 5th-grade students and is a fun chance to learn cheer/dance basics, pick up some new spirit moves, and spend an evening with our KHS student leaders.
The cost is $55 per participant (with sibling discounts available), and participants will also have the opportunity to perform during halftime of the KHS varsity Boys Basketball game. You can register by scanning the QR code on the flyer or visiting the event website at tinyurl.com/3tvjphvy.

As we look ahead to 2026, Kearney School District is getting ready to launch a new community planning initiative. We will be forming a School Finance Process Action Team (PrAT) and are looking for qualified stakeholders to help guide this work.
The main goal of this team will be to ensure sound fiscal practices in alignment with the board-approved Strategic Plan, and to develop a multiyear plan to fund district priorities, including competitive staff compensation.
This team will follow the same kind of structured, transparent process that we used for the Elementary School Boundary Team in the 2024-2025 academic year. Members will review data, discuss options, gather feedback from the broader community and develop recommendations for Superintendent Emily Miller and the Board of Education.

Kearney School District’s kindergarten enrollment opens on Monday, Feb. 2, for the 2026-2027 academic year. If you have a child who will be age five on or before July 31, 2026, this will be the time to enroll them in kindergarten!
We will email and post information about how to enroll on Feb. 2; updates will also be available on our website. Parents/guardians will be required to provide their own government-issued identification and a birth certificate, a record of required immunizations and proof of residence for their child during kindergarten enrollment. Use our online district boundary map to locate the elementary school your child will attend. Questions can be emailed to reghelp@ksdr1.net.

Kearney School District students are expected to attend the elementary school assigned to their home address. However, if you would like to request an elementary school transfer for the 2026–2027 academic year, please complete the Student Transfer Request Form and submit it by April 1, 2026.
Thank you for helping us plan ahead for next year.
