KHS Volleyball Stuns Smithville to Reach District Championship
The fourth-seeded Kearney High School Volleyball team faced Smithville High School on Saturday, Oct. 23, in the gym at Pembroke Hill with something to prove, and walked out having rewritten the script. Behind Head Coach Kathryn Cash, the Bulldogs upset the tournament’s top seed in a thrilling three-set battle to advance to the district championship for the second straight year.
The KHS attack was balanced and relentless, finishing with 34 kills and a team hitting percentage of .114 while holding the Warriors to just .018. The defense matched that edge, piling up 59 digs and 8 total blocks that repeatedly stalled Smithville’s momentum. From the service line, the Bulldogs kept the pressure on with 9 aces and 91.9% serving efficiency. The Bulldogs were steady, disciplined, and decisive. From the first whistle to the final point, this group played fearless volleyball, executed the game plan, and reminded everyone that rankings don’t measure heart.
