Bulldogs Earn 4th-Straight Softball District Championship
The Kearney High School Softball team was all business last night at William Chrisman, taking on Platte County for the Class 4–District 8 Championship and coming home with a fourth-straight title.
The Bulldogs set the tone early and never let up, plating 2 in the first, 1 in the second, 2 in the third, 2 in the fifth, and 2 in the sixth to seal a 9–0 victory.
It was a complete team performance. Pitcher Kate Landewee was in command the entire game, going the distance for 7 innings, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 17. At the plate, Alyssa Quick put an exclamation point on the night with a 2-for-2 line featuring two home runs and 4 RBI, while Kate Stumpenhaus added a solo shot and 3 RBI. Brooke Paalhar went 2-for-3, Kennedi Casey and Morgan Pennington each chipped in base hits, Chloe Garrett drove in a run, and Caroline Jury finished 1-for-1. Everyone found a way to contribute, and it showed on the scoreboard.
Next up, the Bulldogs face Belton on Saturday, Oct. 25. Location and time are TBA; we’ll share details as soon as they’re confirmed. Congratulations to our athletes and coaches on a dominant championship performance!
