Kearney, Mo., April 19, 2021: Kearney School District is excited to welcome Brandy Tanner as the new head high school volleyball coach.
Coach Tanner’s hiring was formally approved by the KSD Board of Education on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. She comes to the Bulldogs after 13 years of head coaching experience at Northland Christian where she won two state championships. She was there for 15 years where she served as the K-12 PE teacher, head volleyball coach, and then moved into the role of Assistant Principal and Activities Director while continuing her coaching career.

“Brandy Tanner is a perfect fit for Kearney School District because she is a great educator, a proven coach and a caring mentor,” KSD Activities Director Dave Schwarzenbach said. “I know she is going to be a great leader for our students at Kearney High School.”
She was born and raised in Kansas City. She played college softball at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. After graduating from UMKC, she began her teaching and coaching career at Northland Christian. She is married to Zane Tanner and has four boys; Tyler (16), Adam (13), Luke (8), and Jayke (7).
High school coaching should always be first and foremost about helping students improve both on and off the court, Tanner said.
“Although I love to celebrate accomplishments and victories, I am always ready to take the next step to become better,” she said. “I love to have fun, work hard, win and develop lessons and relationships that go beyond to help my players be successful in life.”
