Superintendent’s Message

Community Strength Prepares and Protects Our Bulldogs

Whether you are new to the Kearney School District or were born and raised in the Kearney/Holt area you know there is progress everywhere in our communities. Nowhere can you find more progress than in our schools. The Kearney School District Early Education Center opened in June providing new programs for the district’s youngest students. Our district administrative offices relocated to the same building located at 150 West 92 Highway. This move, combined with new additions to Kearney Middle School and Kearney High School, provides additional learning spaces in almost every building. Many of these facility upgrades will result in secure entryways, a recommendation stemming from the district’s Safety and Security Committee.

Of course, district improvements go well beyond school facilities. The vision of “Pursuing Excellence Today for Tomorrow” is not just a slogan; it means there are high expectations for students and adults alike. As an organization, continuous improvement means being agile enough to recognize the ever-changing needs of our stakeholders. We know first-hand this is both a wonderful time to be a kid, but also a risky one. Today’s students face threats inside and outside of school that many adults never experienced. Increasing school safety through prevention programs like anti-bullying, suicide, and crisis training are a staple in every school, but we want to do more. Keeping kids safe requires a collaboration between the school and home. That means we not only inform the adults at home about our initiatives, we provide up-to-date resources about the latest trends that could pose a threat to kids. To that end, this year you can expect periodic communication from the district providing timely information and resources on topics like social media use, cyberbullying, youth risky behavior and more. The hope is that with a well informed partnership between school, community and home, we can create a better environment where children not only succeed, but thrive.

We look forward to this partnership and a great school year!
