The Kearney School District provides Parents as Teachers and Early Childhood Special Education services to children living within the district. KSD’s Parents as Teachers staff members also provide a Kindergarten Jumpstart visit prior to Kindergarten Round Up. Find our more about these programs in the details below:
What is a Kindergarten Jumpstart and screening visit and why is it necessary for my child to take part?
The Kindergarten Jumpstart and screening visit is a short 13 question screening that tells us what your child already knows before entering kindergarten. This is an important tool for you, as a parent, to know what things you can work on over the summer to help set your child up for success in their first year of school. Our job as the parent educator is to give you ideas and tools to help with any areas of concern we find on the screening. It is important to know there is not a score your child must achieve in order to go to kindergarten.
We conduct the screening in your home or at the Early Education Building.
During the Kindergarten Jumpstart and screening visit we will walk through what the transition to school looks like and help ease concerns you may have as well as answer your questions.
